Trailblazing writer and director John Singleton has died at the age of 51 after he suffered a habilitating stroke.

Singleton was beloved in Hollywood. He made those in the business sit up and take notice with his critically acclaimed writing and directorial debut for Boyz N the Hood.

The father of five continued to break down barriers in showbiz, as well as launch the careers of several of today’s hottest A-list stars. Cuba Gooding Jr, Tyrese Gibson, and Morris Chestnut are only a few who had the privilege of working with the famed writer, director, and producer.

On April 17th, the Academy Award nominee had gone to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles seeking medical attention for an undisclosed condition. He was still in the hospital three days later, when he suffered a massive stroke, like the one that claimed actor Luke Perry’s life almost two months ago.

There was a one-year age difference between the two men. Their deaths have prompted a call for people to become more aware of warning signs of a stroke. They were both incredibly young to suffer a stroke costing them their lives.

The sad news John Singleton dies comes hours after inaccurate reports of his death had surfaced online. His rep quickly cleared up the false death rumors but also gave the sad news the beloved man was in a coma.

His mother and daughter were fighting over control of his affairs when Singleton passed away. It is not clear if the court had officially assigned one of them to be his conservator before his death. A family should be able to come together in devastating situations like death. Hopefully, the Four Brothers director’s family can do that.
